The almost 2000 meter high Untersberg, surrounded by legends and myths, is the final stop of a "land of mountains" foray through the Flachgau Alpine foothills with its enchanting lake landscape.

The city of Salzburg's large drinking water reservoir is also located on the Untersberg; the water comes crystal clear directly from the mountain. The journey continues via the Großgmain open-air museum, the largest farm museum in the Eastern Alps, over the Voggenberg, the Haunsberg and the Buchberg.

It is Salzburg's youngest nature park with numerous places of power and panoramic views of more than 120 rugged limestone Alpine peaks. The Obertrumersee, Mattsee, Wallersee and Grabensee lie idyllically at your feet.

One of the most modern observatories in Europe was built in 2018 on Haunsberg - just a stone's throw from the historic "Kaiserbuche" square. A vintage car ride takes Salzburg's painter prince Hans Weyringer to his "studio" on Tannberg. The Teufelsgraben near Seeham and Henndorf, which has been a summer retreat for many artists since the 19th century, are stops on the journey.

Carl Zuckmayer formed the “Henndorfer Circle” with the writers Stefan Zweig, Ödön von Horvath and others, based in the famous “Wiesmühl”.

As we travel through this landscape of contrasts with its many viewpoints, magical places and captivating stories, we meet geologists, wild women, painters, poets, a vintage car collector, a mountain owner, a musician and one or two mountain spirits.
